|| 2018 vs 2019 #acneprogress || yesterday marked the start of another @f.acne online program so I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve learned since creating @f.acne. 📸 Photo 1 - shows a Nicola that was highly stressed. I was under a lot of pressure and was doubting my path. I was also restricting certain foods because I thought they were causing my acne & using 5+ different skincare products + over washing my face. My gut health was poor (bloating, stomach aches & very regular bowel movements), My periods were painful & irregular & I had acne throughout the whole month (rather than in a cyclical pattern) 📸 Photo 2 (taken today!). Fulfilled, setting daily habits for my mental health & well-being, eating healthy but also indulging, using a consistent skincare routine, surrounded by a supportive community of women & learning to embrace imperfections and accept myself as I am. I’ve also learned to put my health first. I have one cyst on my face (but it is towards the end of my cycle so expected). What I’ve learned? 💫 there is no CURE for acne, only management strategies 💫 Eating a balanced diet and understanding your individual food triggers helps - but being restrictive and anxious around food is counterintuitive 💫 Food alone is not the cause of acne - certain foods can trigger an increase in oil production or promote inflammation in some acne prone individuals. 💫 If you are unfulfilled & emotionally stressed, your skin will tell you (if you’re acne prone). My skin communicates with me - if I start getting more cysts than normal I know I need to boost certain habits & focus on myself 💫 Acne is expensive & people will try to sell you a cure. Stay informed & don’t believe everything you see on Instagram & in the media. Knowledge is power (the @f.acne program combines knowledge from 6 different health professionals to cut through the bullshit) 💫 Gut health is everything. Tracking your poo is weird but it has helped me a lot. 💫 Overwashing your face does not help acne. Not washing your face does not help acne. Find a balance. 💫 Medication has its place and you should never judge an individual’s acne path #acne #acnestories #cystahood #facne

This photo is 3 months apart! Over the past three months I’ve learned A LOT about acne but one of the main things I’ve learned is you can’t CURE acne, you can only manage it. I’ve always been part of the #cystahood - from my first day of high school when I experienced my first pimple, to going on the pill and feeling my first cyst (yes I was one of those odd people that GOT acne on the pill); to getting acne all over my forehead when I went through a phase of shitty eating. There are various factors that trigger acne - everyone has the bacteria on their skin, it’s just whether you’re body is susceptible. This time round I was extremely confused by my cystic acne. I was eating well, taking all my usual supplements, exercising and following all my own YouTube videos. But there was one thing I wasn’t confronting (which I always preach) - my emotions & stress. You know when you’re unhappy about something but you cover it up and just keep on going? That was me (I will cover the issue in a YouTube video... one day). My gut was working overtime and giving me all the signals I was stressed, but my head told me to ignore the symptoms and get on with it. I didn’t realise the extreme significance of the gut-mind connection. My stress response is acne and gut related issues, but yours could be something totally different. I now listen to my mind and schedule time for ME every week because I know it isn’t just about my headspace, it’s about my overall health and well-being. Me time is acupuncture @greenstoneacu - plus mornings where I just sit and acknowledge my own thoughts. Being alone used to be my greatest enemy, but it’s now my best friend. It’s okay to be unhappy about something in your life, you’d be surprised how many people on social media look like they have a perfect life (but are deeply unhappy on the inside). It’s okay to change direction, re-evaluate things in your life or start again. Trust me, life goes on and you’d be surprised how many new opportunities present themselves when you let go. #acne #facne #acnepositivity

|| FINDING YOUR ACNE WHY || As someone who put the @f.acne program together, I feel you should have some idea of what measures I’ve taken to clear my skin. I have taken a lot of pills, tried a lot of supplements and have experienced many ups and downs with my skin. All of these photos are at different phases of my life and reflect a different “acne why”. - Photo 1: was on anti-depressants, the contraceptive pill, antibiotics AND was using Topical antibiotic cream. My skin was at its worse. I also developed pigmentation from the pill. Freaked out. Went to a naturopath and under their guidance, went off all medication, did an acne reset and saw improvements. - Photo 2: was on no medication but was worried about my career, relationship and life in general. Was using next to no skincare on my skin (realised that not using effective skincare is just as bad as overwashing your face - you need to find a happy medium). Got a hormone test, was put on herbs - see next photo. - Photo 3 - after a course of herbs I developed HUGE cysts on my chin and jawline (this photo does not show the size - they were so sore and inflamed). Stopped taking herbs as I realised it may not be the right blend for me (realised That natural supplements are very powerful and you need to stay informed - discussed in @f.acne ). - Photo 4: my most recent break out (what lead to the development of @f.acne ). Was having diarrhoea every day, was always bloated and my head was foggy. Did a gut cleanse and realised the gut-skin-brain axis! - Swipe left for NOW: I eat well (but still indulge), follow a great consistent skincare routine, do a gut cleanse every time I feel my digestive system going down track, have implemented stress management strategies (stress influences gut health) but still expect my skin to break out at some point in the future. The difference between now and then? I’m prepared! As you can see, I don’t have just one trigger. Every acne-prone individual has MANY triggers throughout their life. The one thing you need to remember? Knowledge is power. Finding your triggers is the first step to better managing your breakouts! #acnesucks #findyouracnewhy #facne

Oma teadmistele tuginedes lõi Nicole online-programmi teistele aknega hädas olevatele naistele ja innustab ja õpetab nüüd sama probleemi all kannatajaid nende teekonnal puhtama näonaha poole.
